Aperian Global recently had the pleasure of hosting Lupita Garcia, a Management Services Consultant at Dell Technologies, for a virtual collaboration forum exploring how Dell Technologies uses GlobeSmart to create inclusion champions.

Dell Technologies considers GlobeSmart as a “go-to” platform.
“We all have differences – what makes us unique is precisely those differences,” Garcia says. “That’s what we like to show off through GlobeSmart.” Dell Technologies has GlobeSmart available via single sign-on for all worldwide team members on their intranet home page and promotes it through team and leader channels. Additionally, Dell Technologies sends a monthly recap and refresh to team members detailing how GlobeSmart can help.
“It’s a high-potential tool that has helped bring us together in a more multicultural working environment,” Garcia says.
Dell Technologies employs GlobeSmart within its internal Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).
At Dell Technologies, their “MOSAIC” employee resource group is a place to talk specifically about cultural matters, including diversity and inclusion. “It’s a community where we have people from all over the place, showing off our cultural preferences, what makes us unique,” Garcia says.
Dell Technologies also uses GlobeSmart to help “train the trainers” in Human Resources.
GlobeSmart is a helpful tool for equipping Dell Technologies’ regional HR consultants with needed information. It helps them deliver requested consultation and support services. HR personnel answer the survey and follow up with the Profile to familiarize themselves with the questions they will be delivering to other employees. “At the end of the day, how we use GlobeSmart is to promote team effectiveness in multicultural environments,” Garcia says.
GlobeSmart was a part of the company’s COVID-19 response.
As Dell Technologies responded to the pandemic, they faced a specific challenge – working to help their existing leaders become effective “virtual leaders.” Dell Technologies developed a “Leading Virtual Teams in Times of Uncertainty” working session and introduced GlobeSmart as a tool to help bring the company together.
“It was amazing how people responded to that,” Garcia says. “It worked as a refresher for those who had already used the GlobeSmart platform, but it also worked as something new and something wonderful with high potential for leaders and team members to take a look at.”
GlobeSmart offers an opportunity to connect more with team members.
For Dell Technologies, the learning platform opens up the doors to better connections with fellow employees – among its many other uses. “Use it as a team-building activity, bring the teams together, use it for yourself if you want to explore other countries, or use it as a team debrief just to get to know each other a little better,” Garcia says.
Dell Technologies uses GlobeSmart as a way to bridge work-style differences.
At Dell Technologies, employees get encouraged to use the GlobeSmart platform before working with someone from a different culture. With GlobeSmart insights, employees can explore more effective tools for collaboration with other cultures. “This is how we started making progress, because our interactions are much more effective and enriched, and we continue to thrive together,” Garcia says.
